Policies and Procedures

Residency: Players must reside in the CNWB Zone

Please ensure you reside within Calgary Northwest Basketball (CNWB) boundaries. OUR ZONE HAS CHANGED SO PLEASE ENSURE YOU LIVE WITHIN OUR BOUNDARIES.

A NW residence does not guarantee you are in the CNWB zone.  Also, recent changes to boundaries may mean that players who have previously played with CNWB now belong to a different zone. Please verify through the ZONE MAP link prior to registering. Any registrations outside our boundaries will be withdrawn and a $50 administration fee charged.

Players must register within their designated community basketball zone.

Before You Register

  • Use the Zone Finder on the CMBA website to confirm your zone
  • Manually zoom in on the map to verify your community boundary (the tool may not always be perfectly accurate)

Important Notes

  • Registering in the wrong zone may result in:
    • Delays in placement
    • Cancellation of registration
    • Loss of playing opportunities
  • $50 administration fee applies if a player withdraws after registering in the wrong zone
  • Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring registration is completed in the correct zone

Key Reminder: Deadlines are strictly enforced. Once a program reaches its no-refund stage, exceptions will not be made.

Safety of Players and Coaches: The Rule of 2

Northwest Basketball has a mandatory 2 adult policy at all times with athletes. This 2 adult policy is in place to protect athletes, coaches and volunteers. For U11 and U13 teams, one adult must be of the same gender as the athletes. For example, on a girls team with 2 male coaches, a female parent would be required to stay for practice in  the role of gym mom. Please volunteer to fill this role as required for your team.

When dropping players off at practice, please ensure that coaches are present and the gym is open and accessible. THis is especially important during cold winter months.

Our coaches are all volunteer and they want to go home when practice is done. While they will never leave a player alone, it is paramount that you pick up your athlete on time from practices and games.

Under-Age Players Playing in Older Age Groups

Athletes who wish to participate in an older age group must first notify the Registrar. On rare occasions when the request is substantiated, these players may be invited to join the older age group's evaluation process. These decisions are made entirely at the discretion of CNWB's  President and other executives based on what they believe is in the best interest of the player.

Program Capacity

Register early to ensure a spot in our programs. It is Calgary NorthWest Basketballs' goal to provide an opportunity for all of our members to participate, however we are limited by our gym availability. Once specific age categories are full, please sign up on the waitlist as CNWB and CMBA will make every effort to include as many players as possible. Please note that our LTP & Tyke programs fill quickly so please register early to ensure a spot.

Special Requests

Player requests will be accepted, however we do not guarantee that we can grant all requests.  Please understand that no refunds will be granted based on player requests not being met. Please refer to our Refund Policy prior to registering.

Practice nights, times and locations cannot be confirmed until teams have been set (usually by the end of the third week of September). We understand that some athletes are involved in multiple activities and where possible we will try to accommodate.

Please understand that conflicts do not qualify as an exception and no refunds will be issued due to player requests not being met.

Uniforms: Care and Return

All players are provided a uniform that is to be worn at games only. Uniforms are not to be worn for practices, nor at any other time outside of CMBA games.

Uniforms must be returned to your team's uniform coordinator or coach at the end of the season as a complete set (jersey & shorts). It is expected that they are in the same condition as when they were received. After April 1st, any player who has not returned their uniform will have $175 charged to their account and any outstanding balances could affect future registrations.

Tyke and LTP do not require a uniform return as they are given t-shirts that are to be kept.

Volunteering

CNWB is a volunteer run organization and we require that all families be willing to contribute in some capacity throughout the season. Please visit our volunteering page for descriptions of the various roles you can fill within your team.

If volunteer commitments (including those required at the team level) are not fulfilled by any player's family, a charge of $200 per player with a maximum charge of $400 per family will be applied to youraccount at the end of the season and any outstanding balances could affect future registrations.

CNWB does offer a "No Volunteering" option. If chosen,  you will be charged $200 per player with a maximum charge of $400 per family. This can be selected at the time of registration. That being said, we encourage volunteerism and in fact our programs rely entirely upon the willingness of families to volunteer.

Proof of Age

All players who are new to Calgary Minor Basketball will be asked to provide a copy of their birth certificate or Alberta Health Care card at the time of registration. (CMBA will not register a player unless they have received this proof of age from CNWB.)

A player's registration will not be accepted or considered complete until this has been received (even if payment has been made). Please have a copy of this documentation ready to upload when registering on-line.

For players who are new to CNWB but have played basketball for another community within CMBA, please inform the registrar of the community last played for so they may retrieve your CMBA ID#.
